"And the behavior of the cat was somewhat peculiar. It was soon noticed that when there was work to be done the cat could never be found. She would vanish for hours on end, and then reappear at meal-times, or in the evening after work was over, as though nothing had happened."
Biography:
-The cat is one of the laziest animals on the farm.
-She runs away when the other animals are working, so that she has nothing to do with it.
-Even though she does absolutely no work at all, she hurries back to the rest of the animals when it is meal-time.
-She takes the easy way out.
-The cat is also a bit of a trickster - due to the time when she tries to get the birds to perch on her paw.
-"The cat joined the Re-education Committee and was very active in it for some days. She was seen one day sitting on a roof and talking to some sparrows who were just out of her reach. She was telling them that all animals were now comrades and that any sparrow who chose could come and perch on her paw; but the sparrows kept their distance."
-Although the cat was lazy, and did not like to work, she still helped chase the humans off the farm during the Battle of the Cowshed.
-"Even the cat suddenly leapt off a roof onto a cowman's shoulders and sank her claws in his neck, at which he yelled horribly."
